We need to add the support for OperationMethod EPSG:1024 (Popular Visualisation Pseudo Mercator). The task is merely to add a few identifiers on the alias list of the Mercator projection and testing. Once this operation method is supported, the ProjectedCRS EPSG:3857 (WGS 84 / Pseudo-Mercator) should be available with no additional work.

Note that prior this EPSG code, GeoTools defined the EPSG:900913 custom code. Whatever we should support this code or not is an open question.

The arrival of an official EPSG code has been anounced there: (note that there is a typo in the reported code - this is 3587, not 3785)

P.S.: it is already possible in current Geotk to instantiate a Google projection from WKT, without using the EPSG database, as documented there:
